Responsibilities of a Tenant

What Tenants are responsible for...

Tenants are responsible for a range of matters regarding the safe-keeping and maintenance of a property. While general wear-and-tear and routine maintenance is the financial responsibility of an owner, the following issues are responsibilities of a tenant:

  • Pest control
  • Blocked drains
  • Replacement or repair of windows broken or cracked during the tenancy
  • Any damage, including accidental damage to the property during the tenancy
  • Replacement of lightbulbs, bath tubs
  • Cleaning of carpets
  • Changing of the locks and purchase of new keys if originals are lost or stolen
  • Ensure rent is paid on time
  • Ensure you have adequate contents insurance to not only protect your personal assets but to provide a level of personal liability cover

If you’re ever unsure of your responsibilities as a tenant, please contact your property manager and they will be able to advise you.
